Crew is complex. It’s like doing a puzzle where every piece has a mind of its own. At the same time, Crew are the only factor that can convert expensive steel to a productive asset. They are also the only factor that can keep that asset productive.

We work hard to avoid what we call “Competence without comprehension”. This means we don’t just look at documents and multiple-choice tests. We look for crew who comprehend why COLREG, SOLAS, MARPOL, etc., are the way they are. We look for thinkers, not parrots.

We are technology friendly. This means we always look for ways to make life at sea easier, more predictable and fulfilling. It doesn’t always mean high-tech! We push solutions like our cloud-based competence-management platform or our Training Record Booklet. We also make extensive use of automation in processes considered time-consuming.
